Employment

Theatre by the Bay is committed to hiring, showcasing, and developing artists within Simcoe County. Hiring preference will be given to those who live in, were raised in, or have family within Barrie and/or Simcoe County.
Theatre by the Bay promotes an environment of equity, inclusion, and diversity. Artists from under-represented communities, especially those who live within Simcoe County, are highly encouraged to apply for employment.

What would make you a great candidate?

Volunteering

Our shows would not be possible without our volunteers! We are always looking for people who are eager and ready to jump in and have fun. It takes 50 – 60 volunteers to make our season a success.
Our volunteers come from all walks of life, all age groups, and all levels of experience. We have teenagers, retirees, and everyone in between. Best of all, no experience is required to volunteer – just plenty of enthusiasm!
To make your life easier, Theatre by the Bay manages all of its volunteer shifts through Tandempark. This amazing free (and secure) software allows you to see what shifts are coming up, receive notifications before your shift, and much more! All volunteers will be required to create an account before their first shift.

All volunteers are invited to read this.

The Nick Baillie Award for Volunteer of the Year

The Nick Baillie Award for Volunteer of the Year is our way of honouring volunteers who went above and beyond during their respective season. The recipients are publicly announced at our Season Launch event.

Workshops

Barrie Theatre Lab

Generously supported by: Anna Small and the City of Barrie’s Cultural Grant Program.
Are you a budding playwright living in Simcoe County? The Barrie Theatre Lab is a once-a-month get-together for playwrights seeking to have new scenes and plays read out loud. No piece is too small, rough, or new!
To date, the Barrie Theatre Lab has workshopped more than 100 plays by more than 40 playwrights from as far away as Toronto and Haliburton!
Even if you’re not a playwright, come on out! The Barrie Theatre Lab is open to the local theatre community as a place where we can come together, talk about new work, and network.
Actors are especially welcome as we will need lots of readers! For actors, reading new scenes and plays is an important way to practice your craft. Being able to read a scene you haven’t had much time to rehearse is a very important part of getting work as an actor.
