May - June 2019
The Indie Producer’s Co-op provides two students from George Brown Theatre School with a ground-level education in producing theatre.
Participants receive a two-week intensive that investigates the vital role of the producer. They will learn what it takes to run a professional theatre company, when to say yes or no to projects, how to develop a realistic budget, how to make sure your project stands out, what factors lead to a successful production, and much more.
This intensive is followed by four weeks of unparalleled job training. Participants will work on Theatre by the Bay’s 2019 season in a variety of capacities. In the past, these have included marketing, audience development, fundraiser development, sponsorship accrual, and production management.
The Indie Producer’s Co-op will be overseen by Artistic Director (and inaugural Indie Producer) Iain Moggach, with assistance from Alex Dault, the former artistic director and founder of the Co-op.
The Indie Producer’s Co-op is generously supported by Angela Baldwin.
Our 2019 Indie Producers are:
Cassandra Davidson and Sansom Marchand
Cassandra is from the beautiful, small town of Walkerton, Ontario. After completing her Bachelor of Arts, Honours at the University of Guelph, she decided to relocate to Toronto, to continue her training at George Brown College. Some of her favourite theatre credits include: d’Eon (Monsieur d’Eon is a Woman, GBTS) Duchess (The Duchess of Malfi, GBTS), Iris (The Quest for the Perfect Science Fair Project, Bruce Power Theatre), and The Young One (If We Were Birds, University of Guelph). She is a stage combat enthusiast and hopes to make theatre and sword fight her way around the world.
Sansom Marchand is a theatre maker from Chelsea, Quebec. While growing up surrounded by the incomparable Gatineau Hills they dreamed of making their mark on Canadian theatre. They brought this dream to Halifax in 2011 to attend the Fountain School of Performing arts where they received honours in theatre. After graduation they dove head-first into the Halifax community working as a director, actor and premiered their one-person show Being Here. In 2017 they moved to Toronto to attend George Brown Theatre School where they have just finished their second year.
Sansom would like to thank their parents, family, and friends for their endless love and support, they could not be here without them.
